A Forest Hill family is mourning the loss of a woman who was fatally shot by a stray bullet while sitting in her backyard over the weekend.
Jessica Casas identified the victim as her aunt, Maricella Trujillo. Casas said Trujillo and her brother were gathered around a fire pit at their home when a bullet passed through the fence, striking both of them. Trujillo died at the scene, while her brother is expected to recover.
Forest Hill police said the gunman fired the shot about a block away and did not appear to be targeting Trujillo. Authorities have not yet made any arrests in the case.
