The presidential campaigns are planning their final efforts to reach voters in Texas. Early voting continues through Friday, and election day is next Tuesday.
President Donald Trump does not plan any stops in Texas before the election, but he did mention Texas during a rally in Pennsylvania Tuesday evening.
"They say, 'President Trump is four points up in Texas,' then the governor calls me from Texas, great guy, Greg," the president said. "He said, 'Sir, that's not true. You're up a lot.'"
A New York Times/Siena College poll released Monday showed Donald Trump leading Joe Biden in Texas 47-43 percent. No Democratic presidential candidate has won Texas since Jimmy Carter in 1976.
"It's funny, Texas. He's against oil, he's against guns, second amendment and he's against God," Donald Trump said of Joe Biden at the rally in Pennsylvania.
Biden is not planning to come to Texas before the election, but his running mate, Kamala Harris will campaign for him in several cities this Friday. She plans stops in Fort Worth, McAllen and Houston, but the campaign has not sent a schedule. The Texas Democratic Party is also planning a bus tour across the state called, "Battle for the Soul of our Nation."
Neither Biden nor Harris will be attending, but the Texas Democratic Party says members of Congress and local Democratic party office holders will act as surrogates. The bus tour begins Wednesday morning in Amarillo and will include stops in Abilene, Lubbock, Dallas and Fort Worth.
Through Tuesday, the Texas Secretary of State says 7,799,519 across the state had voted, representing 46% of all registered voters. Turnout through Tuesday was 46% in Dallas County, 47% in Tarrant County, 56% in Denton County and 57% in Collin County.
