Prosper prepares for new growth, relocates industrial plants

With the Dallas North Tollway extending northward into Prosper, officials say four concrete batch plants no longer fit the town's vision of the future.

Officials are planning the commercial and retail landscape on either side of the impending corridor of the Dallas North Tollway, and they say in order to grow the area, certain facilities are going to need to relocate-- specifically four concrete batch plants currently occupying the space.

Two of the independently owned plants have entered into agreements to relocate out of the town by Oct. 1, 2024, and similar negotiations are in the works for the remaining two plants.

"They would prefer to be in Prosper because of the central location to all the construction activity," says John Webb, Director of Development Services in Prosper. "But each operator of the plant understood that as development became closer and closer, they were not a compatible neighbor to office and residential uses in Prosper."

Webb says the town alerted the plants more than two years ago that they needed to make plans to relocate.
