Report: Dallas ISD kindergartners falling behind in reading

A year after the Coronavirus outbreak, some of the youngest students in Dallas school district are falling farther behind in their academic progress.

Last November, the Dallas school board saw the hand writing on the wall and ratcheted back academic goals for this school year. But now, as reported by a local newspaper, the youngest kids are not even meeting those.

Report say three out of every four Kindergartners are not even reading at their own grade level -- and minority kids are the farthest behind.

The Dallas school district says the children got off on the wrong foot last Spring when Pre-K programs were disrupted in the early throes of the pandemic.

Then the summer wasn't much better as many school children had little or no access to education opportunities.
