Report: Jason Kidd will be the next Dallas Mavericks head coach

With former Dallas Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle now hired to coach the Indiana pacers, one of his former Dallas players appears ready to coach the Mavericks.

There are multiple reports, including from 105.3 The Fan, that team owner Mark Cuban is going to hire Jason Kidd as the head coach.

Kidd was a fan favorite as a player, beginning in 1994 when the Mavs drafted him in the first round. In 1996, he was traded to Phoenix.

Kidd returned to Dallas in 2008 and went on to be a major part of the the Mavs 2011 NBA championship team.

Kidd has five years of NBA head coaching experience with Brooklyn and Milwaukee.

All of the reports so far quote anonymous sources and have not been confirmed by the Mavericks.

When Carlisle departed suddenly, some worried how the abrupt coaching change might affect the Mavs' young superstar Luka Doncic. But Carlisle says he's the only person on the planet who has coached both Doncic and Kidd -- and he believes Doncic will flourish under Kidd's leadership.
