As the Republican Midterm Convention gets underway this week in Dallas, one huge competitor it will have to deal with is the National Football League.

Both nights of the convention coincide with the first two nights of NFL games.

"That's a tough one," GOP Strategist Vinny Manchillo with Glasshouse Strategy said. "Certainly, here in Dallas we love our football and we'll be watching. So, you know, hopefully a lot of people DVR'ing it."

He says if people do miss it, it's highly likely the soundbites from the speeches will end up on social media leaving the outreach in place.

Plus, he says the first-of-its-kind convention is more for the party faithful and for donors.

"It's all about turnout," Manchillo said. "If republicans can turnout all their people, well, they're going to win and if democrats can turnout all their people they're going to win. That's really what an event like this is all about."

President Donald Trump's keynote address Wednesday night will compete with the Patriots/Seahawks game. Vice President J.D. Vance's keynote address and President Trump's closing remarks Thursday night will compete with the 49ers/Rams game.
