The space at the top of Reunion Tower in Dallas will have a new steak and seafood restaurant next year. It's been unoccupied since Wolfgang Puck's Five Sixty closed in May of 2020 at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The new restaurant will be called Crown Block. It will serve steak and seafood and is scheduled to open in the spring of 2023.
"The name is Crown Block, which is this complex set of pulleys on top of an oil derrick. So when you look at Reunion Tower and you look at the top, we thought this ode to Texas and the oil industry was fun," said restaurateur Elizabeth Blau, who owns several restaurants in Las Vegas and Vancouver with her husband, chef Kim Canteenwalla. "Mostly it's just a fun name. Crown is at the top of someone's head, and so it's at the top of the tower. It's easy to pronounce and easy to remember."
Blau hopes to offer a unique experience for tourists who want a great view of Dallas, but notes they will also work to attract north Texas residents.

"We want to celebrate all things Texas," she said. "I think that it's really important that locals come and it's a place to celebrate."
The main dining area will not rotate, which has been a distinctive feature of many of the restaurants that have occupied that space since the tower opened in 1978. A private dining area on the 17th floor will offer rotating views.
