The Richardson school district is the latest in North Texas making the tough decision to close some schools due to declining enrollment and budget issues.
Richardson ISD Superintendent Tabitha Branum announced last night that 5 elementary schools will either close or be repurposed.
The proposed "Project Rightsize" would close and consolidate Greenwood Hills, Springridge, Spring Valley, and Thurgood Marshall elementary schools in the upcoming 2024-25 school year.
Dobie Pre-Kindergarden will close completely for the 2025-2026 school year.
The Superintendent says the closings will save the district nearly $11 Million a year.
The district is planning informational meetings next week to discuss the plan with parents.
