A Richardson man is going to prison for 30 years for trying to kill his former girlfriend last year.

Court records show 57-year-old Dwayne Sharlow could have gone to prison for life if his case had gone to trial. Instead, he pleaded guilty to aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and got a 30-year term.

Last year, Sharlow's ex-girlfriend was in her car, parked in her Prosper driveway in the 5500 block of Crestwood Drive when Sharlow approached and opened fire. She was hit by several shots but survived.

Before Prosper police could find him, Sharlow had already rented a car and fled east. Police tracked him down in New Jersey, right across the Hudson River from New York City where he was arrested and returned to Denton.

Law enforcement agencies from New Jersey, Texas Rangers, New Jersey Police, New Jersey Police Department, and the New York City Police Department were all working in cooperation with the Prosper Police Department in tracking and locating Sharlow.
