To curb disturbing trends, several North Texas cities are joining forces to create a road rage task force.

For the last several years, Dallas and other cities have seen road rage incidents escalate from angry drivers to acts of violence.

Assistant Chief Michael Igo with Dallas police said the department joined with the Dallas County Sheriff's Office, Irving and Grand Prairie police departments, and the Texas Department of Public Safety to create a task force to share information to make the roads safer.

"These incidents have resulted in crashes, deaths, and violent crimes, including aggravated assaults and homicides," he said.

Dallas police Maj. Mark Villarreal said their first operation in January netted great results.

"Three hundred thirty-three total citations were issued. Officers made four DWI arrests, two felony arrests, three misdemeanor arrests, and recovered one stolen vehicle."

Villarreal said the next operation would be this weekend. Officers will target aggressive and speeding drivers as well as those who are driving under the influence.

Tips to avoid a confrontation:

Always allow an aggressive driver to pass, don't follow them, and never get in a fight.
