Road reopens after fatal accident investigation in Irving

Irving police have finally cleared the scene of a fatal accident that shut down Southbound MacArthur at Ranch Trail for most of the morning.

Officer Robert Reeves says speeding appears to have been a factor in the crash.

"A vehicle was traveling south down the 8700 block of North MacArthur, operated by a 46-year-old male," Reeves says. "It appears the vehicle may have been traveling at a high rate of speed. He did lose control."

Reeves says the man veered off the roadway and crashed into a concrete pillar. The impact ended up killing him.

The man was driving alone and nobody else was injured in the crash.

Police say at this time it's not clear clear whether drugs or alcohol were involved.
