ROYSE CITY (1080 KRLD)- A Royse City 16-year-old has been arrested after police say he killed his friend while messing around with a gun.
Police say at first they were told 18-year-old Alexander Villegas accidentally shot himself in the stomach and that he died from his injuries. But investigators say the evidence didn't match that story.
They re-interviewed three juveniles who were there at the time of the shooting. They also got a search warrant and now believe that a 16-year-old friend of Villegas was carelessly handling the gun when it went off and hit the 18-year-old.
The shooting is believed to be accidental, but the 16-year-old has been charged with criminally negligent homicide. His name has not been released.
