A Royse City ISD student was arrested Tuesday after bringing a firearm onto the Alternative Learning Center campus, police said.
The Royse City Police Department was contacted by the school district after a gun was discovered at the Alternative Learning Center, which operates inside the RCISD Administration Building at 810 Old Greenville Road. District security had already secured the weapon before officers arrived, according to a media release from Chief Kirk Aldridge.
The Alternative Learning Center serves about 50 students in grades 9 through 12.
Police charged the juvenile with unlawful carrying of a weapon, a third-degree felony. The student’s name was not released because of age. No further details about the type of firearm or how it was discovered were included in the release.
There were no reports of injuries or threats related to the incident. Officials said the matter remains under investigation, and no additional information was released at the time.
School districts across North Texas routinely emphasize campus security measures, including armed officers and protocols for quickly securing weapons when they are reported.
