Police are warning about stranger danger after several suspicious incidents reported in Denton and Cooke Counties.
Sanger police say a local father recently chased a man down after he attempted to lure his son into a truck. Before being chased away, the father was able to take a picture of the stranger and his vehicle license plate, and sent it to the police.
That suspect was originally thought to be connected to an incident in Gainesville, where a mother reportedly called police because a man seemed to be following her young child inside a Home Depot. But Gainesville Police Chief Kevin Phillips says the two incidents are no longer thought to be connected.
Fortunately, no kids were harmed or taken in either incident.
Chief Phillips says the incidents could have ended up a lot worse, and serve as a good reminder to be cautious and teach your kids how to handle potentially dangerous situations and people.
"It's very important," Chief Phillips says. "On one hand, we teach our children to be nice and respectful. But when they're dealing with a stranger, sometimes that can be counterproductive. They need to know that it's okay, if they don't feel safe, to move away from that situation."
