The Save Dallas City Hall coalition in Dallas has filed their first lawsuit over the future of City Hall.
Former Dallas City Councilman Scott Griggs is one of the attorneys for the grassroots effort to protect the building.
"Save Dallas City Hall Coalition sued the City of Dallas to halt 'demolition by neglect' of our Dallas City Hall," Griggs said. "We are demanding mandatory inspections and much-needed repair."
Griggs says Save Dallas City Hall is a coalition made up of residents, historians, architects, and people who simply love and respect the building.
Those who want to move City Government out of the building, including Mayor Eric Johnson, point to the cost of maintaining it.
Others argue neglect of the building has led to its condition and the lawsuit would force the City to make the needed repairs to stabilize the building.
"We would hope the City Council would see the error of their ways and change course and save City Hall as much as the citizens of the City of Dallas want," Griggs said. "We don't believe that's going to happen, we believe that we are going to have to litigate this."
