Days after a shooting at Wilmer Hutchins High School in Dallas, school safety experts from across the country met in Richardson to take part in a major safety summit.
Retired Chief of Police for Dallas ISD, Craig Miller, said the training was necessary to reinforce what is happening now and what could happen by the end of the school year.
Nearly 300 school security leaders gathered from across North Texas, including law enforcement and school administrators, to work on getting on the same page. The Region 10 Education Service Center's 'Safety First' Summit provides training, guidance, information, and resources to improve all aspects of school safety and security.
Miller said technology and physical security systems are great, but the best opportunity to stop a tragedy from happening is by getting to know the students themselves, making sure they have good mental health, and having positive relationships with other students and school staff.
