The boil water notice that went into effect in Ennis over the weekend was finally lifted Thursday night, allowing Ennis ISD schools to reopen Friday.
City officials received confirmation that the water was safe to drink after repairs to a major water main break were completed. The prolonged notice caused challenges for small businesses during a crucial time of year.
"This is our big quarter, this is the fourth quarter, this is the holiday season, this is all we have to make our year," one business owner told KRLD's media partner NBC 5.
In response to the ongoing issues, city leaders this week approved more than $1 million to improve the water treatment plant. They also outlined plans to address aging infrastructure, including the city's pipes, as part of a long-term effort to modernize the water system.
