Senator John Cornyn is flatly denying accusations he is working to undermine Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton's campaign in the U.S. Senate race.
Cornyn told the CNBC Squawk Box program that accusations claiming he is working behind the scenes against Paxton are not accurate.
"Well that's certainly not true. I've said I'd support the ticket and that's been my position all along," Sen. Cornyn said. "The single-most important thing to happen in the Midterm elections is to maintain the majority in the Senate."
Sen. Cornyn said that keeping the Senate in control of the GOP is critical especially if there is a Supreme Court vacancy in the last two years of the Trump presidency.
Paxton beat Cornyn in the Primary last Spring.
Cornyn remains a U.S. Senator until the end of his term this year.
