Senator John Cornyn blasted a democratic Senator who wanted to amend Cornyn's bill stripping funding away from the Cesar Chavez National Monument.

Senator Martin Heinrich of New Mexico wanted to study what best to do with the monument so the story of the foundation of the farm workers' movement doesn't get erased.

"We don't need a report or a further study to delay action," Sen. Cornyn said on the Senate floor. "We know from Cesar Chavez' victims that he was a sexual predator."

Sen. Cornyn did say that they could have a discussion to have an appropriate way to recognize the farm workers. But he said they should do so without honoring a monster in the process.

"I choose to believe those victims," Sen. Cornyn said. "And I hope the Senator from New Mexico does as well."

Sen. Heinrich did say that there should not be a monument honoring Chavez. But he said Sen. Cornyn's bill could erase the foundational history of the farm workers' movement in the process.
