Senator John Cornyn had threatened to withhold support for two Trump administration nominations over funding for a global AIDS program that has existed for years.

Senator Cornyn's office says the Trump administration assured Cornyn that the funding for PEPFAR would be released.

Cornyn then voted to support the nominations of Kari Lake to be Ambassador to Jamaica and Doug Mastriano to be Ambassador to Slovakia out of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

The U.S. President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) was started under the George W. Bush administration in 2003 as a global outreach program to reduce the spread of AIDS and the money has already been appropriated by Congress.
