One US Senator from Texas has had about enough of the term "Latinx," and he wants it outlawed.
Senator Ted Cruz, whose father emigrated from Cuba, says he will introduce a bill in the US Senate that would prohibit federal agency chiefs and their employees from using the term 'Latinx' it in any official communications or forms.
Cruz cited several surveys which showed that well over 50% of Hispanics found the term offensive.
The term emerged as a gender-neutral alternative to Latino and Latina. Proponents say it’s more inclusive, particularly when it comes to LGBTQ individuals.
It has grown in popularity but has not gained widespread acceptance. Critics say among other things its an attempting to strip a Spanish term of gender to Americanize their language and culture.
