An accused serial rapist is in a Collin County courtroom today confessing to decades-old crimes.

Court reports say 52-year-old Jeffery Wheat was tied to four sexual assaults dating from November 2010 through October 2011. Now he is pleading guilty to charges in Collin, Dallas, Denton, and Tarrant counties.

A judge sentenced Wheat to life prison terms in Collin and Tarrant Counties, 30 years in Dallas County, and 20 years in Denton County.

In all four cases, Wheat targeted members of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. The victims lived in Plano, Coppell, Denton, and Arlington.

One victim said a man raped her in her North Texas home, he then called her days later to apologize. Police were able to trace the call to a payphone outside a Chevron Food Mart, and got surveillance footage of him making the call.

Wheat was caught a couple of years ago in Arkansas. It was there police got a DNA swab and were able to link Wheat to several sexual assault cold cases in North Texas.

He was to stand trial this week when he changed his mind and decided to plead guilty.
