The Sherman school board has reversed a decision to cancel a stage production of the musical "Oklahoma" where a trans student was playing the role of a character whose sex is male.
The student's sex at birth was female. The cancellation created a very public controversy not only in Sherman but across much of north Texas. After a marathon school board meeting last night, trustees voted to change the policy saying only students born males could play male roles and vice versa.
Numerous adults spoke emotionally, asking the school board to reverse course. Other students were also affected by the cancellation and they will get back the roles they were assigned before the controversy.
