One man is in the hospital after he was shot by Kaufman County Sheriff's deputies following a chase into Crandall early Tuesday, officials say.

It started Tuesday morning when deputies tried to initiate a traffic stop, but the drive of the vehicle fled.

Eventually, the driver out of the car along U.S. Highway 75, and started to run. During the foot chase, the man fired shots at deputies, who returned fire and struck him. The suspect was recovering at the hospital Tuesday afternoon, and no sheriff's deputies were injured.

The Texas Rangers are leading the investigation. No details had been released as of Tuesday afternoon on who the suspect is or why he decided to make a run for it.

The frontage road of 175 was shut down for hours and businesses were told they were not allowed to open for some time.
