The main animal shelter in Fort Worth is ready to let people start adopting pets again.

Fort Worth's Animal Care and Control department had to close its Silcox Adoption Center last month last month because of a canine distemper outbreak. It has since been reopened and staffers are once again available for adoptions, fostering and volunteers.

They're asking visitors to make an appointment in advance as well as limiting people to meeting three potential pets per visit as a way to help prevent the disease from spreading again. Volunteers will also need to get some updated safety training.
