Barry Manilow announced Monday that he has lung cancer and will reschedule his January concerts to undergo surgery.
The 82-year-old singer-songwriter shared the news in a statement on Instagram, saying he recently experienced two extended bouts of bronchitis, prompting his doctor to order an MRI. The scan revealed a spot, and Manilow said he is “going into surgery to have the spot removed.”
"It's pure luck (and a great doctor) that it was found so early," he said. "The doctors do not believe it has spread, and I'm taking tests to confirm their diagnosis," he added.
The diagnosis means his January shows on the Christmas: A Gift of Love tour will be postponed. The rescheduled dates will begin after his Valentine’s weekend concerts in Las Vegas and continue from late February through April.
