A man is locked up in Arlington, charged with assaulting an elderly relative.

Michael Cruz was arrested Thursday night but not before holding police at bay in a six-hour standoff at a home on South Fielder Road. Thursday afternoon police got a call from a woman who claimed Cruz had assaulted her earlier in the week and threatened her Thursday.

She got out of her home and met police at a parking lot several blocks away. Officers observed her injuries and rolled to her home — where Cruz refused to come out.

SWAT was called in and the impasse lasted until 10 o'clock last night. When he finally gave it up, Cruz was hauled to the Arlington City Jail. He was arrested for Aggravated Assault Family Violence Exhibiting a Deadly Weapon, and another count of causing an Injury to the Elderly Causing Bodily Injury (for the assault that occurred earlier in the week).
