A terrible tragedy to start the year in Arlington. A small boy killed by gunfire this morning has now been identified.
Just past 12:30 a.m. Arlington police got calls about gunfire at an apartment complex on Washington Drive near Lincoln a few blocks north of I-30.
Officers arrived to find an empty apartment with clear signs of violence -- including a blood trail leading out of the apartment.
Around the same time, a wounded four-year-old Corsicana boy was brought to an emergency clinic in Grand Prairie.
Messiah Taplin was pronounced dead shortly after 1 a.m. Grand Prairie police contacted their colleagues in Arlington and the two departments are now comparing notes.
Police spent the rest of the night on-scene speaking to potential witnesses and gathering clues.
Arlington police say that -- while officers were still there this morning -- a car pulled into the parking lot matching the description of one a witness saw leaving around the time of the gunfire.
That driver is being questioned.
