A one-year-old child is dead after they were attacked by three dogs in Duncanville on Monday morning, police say.
The incident happened about 10:40 a.m. in the 1500 block of Lime Leaf Lane, Duncanville police said.
Police said when first responders arrived at the scene, they began to perform life-saving measures on the child, who was unconscious. The child was pronounced dead after being transported to Children's Medical Center in Dallas.
On Monday evening, Duncanville Interim Police Chief Matt Stogner said during a press conference that the infant was being transported to a babysitter's home. One neighbor says he has seen the baby's parents dropping children off at the house daily for at least 10 years.
In that home were three dogs. The dogs were confined and not loose. One was reported to be a shepherd mix, approximately 80 pounds.
All three attacked the one-year-old. The owner tried to stop the dogs but failed to do so and sustained injuries as well. As of Monday afternoon, the dogs are in possession of Duncanville Animal Control.
Duncanville PD said there is a potential for criminal charges to be filed. The investigation is ongoing.
