A pilot and his passenger walked away from a crash landing on Business Highway 377 near the Granbury Airport yesterday.

Reports say the single-prop Rockwell 112 Commander had engine failure on take-off.

The pilot James Winston could not get back to the airport so he set the plane down on the highway. But the landing gear collapsed on touchdown so the plane came to a grinding, skidding stop.

Winston and his passenger came through unscathed but the same cannot be said of the plane. All three blades of the propeller were badly bent, one of the wings was severely damaged and the bottom of the fuselage was damaged.

The cause of the engine failure is not yet clear.
