A small plane landed safely on Saturday afternoon at Arlington Municipal Airport when the pilot reported his landing gear failed to deploy.
The pilot, his 14-year-old son, and a friend circled the runway to burn off fuel while attempting to manually lower the gear, allowing Arlington fire and rescue crews time to prepare for a gear-up landing. Family members, including the boy’s aunt, gathered at the airport as the emergency unfolded.
Despite the mechanical failure, the pilot — an American Eagle instructor with training in emergency landings — safely brought the plane down. No significant injuries were reported.
