June 6 is an important date in American history, as many remember the events of D-Day. While plenty were honoring the day in the United States, the SMU marching band decided to go overseas to pay their respects. The band performed at the international D-Day ceremony in Normandy, France yesterday, taking part as the official band representing the United States.

On Monday, Director Tommy Tucker and the SMU band performed at the international D-Day ceremony at the Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial. The band of 59 was originally scheduled to perform at 2021 D-Day ceremonies, but their trip was postponed. According to CBS DFW, the band performed at multiple ceremonies to honor the day.

Along with the event in Normandy, the band performed at the Memorial Parade in Sainte-Mère-Église, and at ceremonies at the American Cemetery in Brittany and the American Cemetery at Omaha Beach. Hopefully the band was able to impress during the excellent learning experience.
