The 20-year-old son of Tarrant County Sheriff Bill Waybourn was arrested Monday night and charged with solicitation of a minor, assault on a peace officer, and resisting arrest, officials say.
William Waybourn was arrested by Arlington police, the Tarrant County Sheriff's Office said. His charges will be submitted to the Tarrant County District Attorney's Office.
The sheriff's office said in a statement that William is one of eight adopted children of the Waybourn family and that Bill Waybourn was "disappointed in the choices his son made but has taught his children there are consequences to those actions."
The statement from the sheriff's office added that William Waybourn is "developmentally challenged" after being born with fetal-alchohol syndrome.
"To those who are considering adoption, please do not let this situation scare you away from that noble plan. Advocating for children through adoption can bring blessings to both you and the children," Bill Waybourn said. "This is a speed bump in the road of our journey, and we will all come out on the other side."
