A Southwest Airlines pilot is recovering in a Las Vegas hospital after suffering a medical emergency after taking off from Las Vegas on a Columbus, Ohio bound flight Wednesday.
The incident was first reported on Twitter by Charlotte-based American Airlines first officer Josh Yonder who wrote "I'm being notified by passengers on a Southwest flight departing Las Vegas that the captain became incapacitated soon after takeoff this morning. He was removed from the flight deck and replaced by a non Southwest pilot who was commuting on that flight."
The non-Southwest pilot helped with communications while the first officer took command of the aircraft and returned it to Las Vegas. Reprots say the unidentified Captain was quickly taken off to receive medical attention. There have been no updates on his condition.
Another crew was brought in to fly the jet which took off again about four hours after the original departure time. It landed safely in Columbus late Wednesday afternoon.
