One North Texas school district is raising the white flag after being forced to shut down because of an Omicron outbreak.

Officials with the Boyd ISD have closed schools through Monday for deep cleaning, and there will be no virtual classes.

Boyd is just one of many North Texas districts battling a surge in cases.

The Plano ISD heard from a handful of concerned people at last night’s board meeting. Some are asking the district to implement a mask mandate like Dallas and Richardson to try and keep students and staff safe. Others spoke out against it.

According to the district, more than 1,300 Plano students have tested positive for COVID-19. That’s nearly 3 percent of the student population.
