Standoff in Plano: man opened fire wounding police officer

PLANO (1080 KRLD)- Plano police have surrounded an apartment building near Ohio Dr. and Spring Creek after a man opened fire and wounded a police officer. The officer's injuries are minor and he is expected to recover, police say.

The incident started around 11:00 when Plano Police got a 911 call from a man who gave the dispatcher reason to believe he needed help.  The exact nature of his complaint has not been disclosed.  A squad car was sent to the Camden Legacy Creek Apartments on Ohio Drive.

The man was standing on the balcony and opened fire, wounding the officer, said Officer David Tilley.

"Additional officer's responded.  Obviously, now, what we know is we have an individual who is armed, has already shot at a marked  police car. By all accounts we believe he is in his apartment by himself." Tilley said.

All nearby apartments have been evacuated while an emergency crisis negotiator talks with the man.
