Attendance at this year’s State Fair of Texas fell to about 2 million visitors, down from last year’s 2.4 million, officials say.
Despite the decline, the 24-day event continued to make a major impact on the Dallas area, generating an estimated $600 million for the local economy. Fair organizers said this year’s event also funded $1.3 million in new scholarships for Texas students.
Vendors are donating much of the leftover food from the fair to local food banks.
Many visitors said the event remains a cherished family tradition, even as attendance fluctuates year to year.
