A state representative wants the Frisco ISD to do more about sexually explicit books winding up in school libraries.

State Rep. Jared Patterson, of Frisco, has frequently posted on social media, suggesting the district is minimizing the issue, and not doing more about taking the explicit books off the shelves. Often times the books deal with sexuality and are geared toward a younger audience.

Patterson claims that Superintendent Mike Waldrip is the only district chief in the area he represents who has refused to meet with the lawmaker on the issue. But Waldrip fired back defending the district.

In a letter to all parents and staff, he says his staff met with Patterson and immediately removed the book that Patterson was upset about. They also created an online reporting system that parents can use to report any book they feel is obscene. Waldrip continued by saying that instead of working collaboratively with the district to find real solutions to this problem, Representative Patterson posted on social media.
