Texas State Representative Gina Hinojosa of Austin is launching a campaign for the democratic nomination for Texas Governor.
Hinojosa, who launched her campaign through an online video, was a central figure in the democratic walkout from Austin during the redistricting process.
"Out fight right now is against the billionaires and corporations who are driving up prices, closing our neighborhood schools, and cheating Texans out of basic healthcare," Hinojosa said in a YouTube video.
Rep. Hinojosa also went on the offense in her campaign launch.
"The challenge now is that Abbott's corruption runs deep and the billionaires he works for will not stop until they get what they want." Hinojosa said.
Governor Greg Abbott wasted no time in responding to Hinojosa's announcement.
"Gina Hinojosa has proven that she is out of step with Texans," Abbott said in a statement. "Time and again, Gina Hinojosa chooses woke, extreme ideologies over the safety and security of Texas families."
If Hinojosa was to secure the democratic nomination, she would face a General Election where a democrat has not been elected to statewide office since 1994.
