A statue of Dallas Mavericks superstar Dirk Nowitzki now stands in front of American Airlines Center in Dallas where team owner Mark Cuban presided over the unveiling ceremony on Christmas Day.
Dirk was on hand along with his 7-year-old son Max who helped his dad pull the lever which lifted the cylinder concealing the even more massive statue showing Dirk on one leg, launching one of his signature fade-away jumpers.
The crowd of several hundred fans on hand to witness the unveiling were bundled up against the chilly temperatures but were warm in their welcome of Dirk who is arguably the most popular player in Mavericks' history.
One man held up a sign reading "All I Want For Christmas: Meet Dirk." Nowitzki played 21 seasons in the NB,A all of them in Dallas.
His statue and its base stand 24 feet tall, more than three times the height of the seven-foot Nowitzki.
