A woman from Austin is facing felony charges after she was arrested for stealing an ambulance and leading police on a chase that resulted in a crash.
Kimberly Fouty, 34, was taken into custody Sunday on charges of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, DWI-3rd, evading arrest and detention, and failure to stop. She is being held in the Garland Detention Center.
The incident began when paramedics from the Wilmer Fire Department left their ambulance in an emergency bay at the Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas. When they returned the ambulance was gone.
Several hours later, and about 12 miles away, another scene was under investigation in the 400 block of Sonora Road in Garland.
“They reported a gas line had been struck by an ambulance. So officers responded to the area, the fire department responded as well,” said Officer Felicia Jones, Garland police.
A short time later, officers were told about the ambulance theft in Dallas, and a report of an ambulance that was in their area in Garland.
It wasn’t hard to find.
“Officers… got behind it, of course activated their lights and sirens to indicate that they wanted to stop that ambulance and the driver continued driving and led officers on a short field pursuit. Once that ambulance got to about the 2400 block of Rowlett Road it did hit a metal guard rail, which disabled the ambulance.” Jones said.
Fouty was taken into custody.
