Supply shortages could affect nonprofits preparing to serve thousands of holiday meals

Every year, nonprofits across North Texas work hard to serve holiday meals to people in need, but this year, the turkey tap could run dry.

"There's a shortage of turkeys this year," says Cheryl Jackson, founder of Minnie's Food Pantry in Plano. "There's a shortage of turkeys but the number of people that need to receive the turkeys has increased."

Every year, the nonprofit holds a Thanksgiving Giveaway, serving turkey and other holiday staples to thousands of people who would otherwise go without. Last year, the line to receive was more than four-and-a-half miles long. This year, Jackson says it could be even longer. So, she says the nonprofit is relying on the community to donate supplies … before they run out.

"There's a shortage of everything," Jackson says. "Even if we had the funds to get it, it's going to be difficult."

Jackson is asking people to donate early, before supplies run out.

The Thanksgiving Giveaway is Nov. 20 at Minnie's Food Pantry in Plano. More information about the giveaway, including how to donate and volunteer, can be found here.
