The books are officially closed on a former Doctor who murdered a Highland Park woman, and this final appeal was rejected 30-years after the attack.

Former Houston Doctor George Guo will serve the rest of his life in prison with no chance of getting out. The US Supreme Court today rejected his appeal without comment.

Guo was convicted of sexually assaulting and strangling Katherine Bascone of Highland Park in 1988. Following the brutal attack, Bascone was left in a vegetative state for nearly 30 years.

DNA evidence wasn't available at the time of the initial crime, so an evidence bag sat on a shelf for 30-years until Bascone died in 2018. Upon her death, it allowed police to open the bag and run the DNA through a database. It matched Guo, who was then arrested in Houston.

He was convicted and sentenced to life without parole.
