A man is behind bars in Denton County after using a knife to slash one Denton police officer and trying to stab another.
Officials say Gerald Kosirog is being held on multiple counts including aggravated assault on a public servant and out-of-state charges of violating a sexual offender registration requirement.
It all started Thursday with police talking to people in a homeless encampment near Meadow Ridge and Hinkle Drive. They were there to offer them resources to get off the street. But it turned out that Kosirog had warrants out of Tennessee.
At one point, police say Kosirog took off with the officers right behind him. But when they caught up to him, he pulled a knife and as police put it, he "began stabbing the officers repeatedly."
Reports say he tried to stab one officer in the chest but that officer was wearing a specific type of body armor capable of stopping a knife. The officer ended up with some swelling and bruising but the knife did not penetrate.
The other officer however, was slashed across the face and arm and needed some stitches at the hospital.
During the attack, one of the officers punched Kosirog in the face, breaking his nose. Once he was treated at the hospital he was immediately hauled to jail.
