Police have arrested a suspect they say fired shots during a chase in southeast Dallas. It started when officers tried to pull over a vehicle on Saint Augustine Road that officers suspected had stolen license plates.
"The suspect car stopped when it was involved in a crash at Bruton and Jim Miller," said DPD spokesperson Kristin Lowman. "The suspect jumped out and went into the wooded area near the golf course."
That course is the Grover C. Keeton Golf Course on Jim Miller near Bruton. One employee of the course, Ty Martinez, says the suspect came through the course while trying to evade the police.
"The suspect...went onto the golf course, hijacked some older gentlemen's golf cart and also threw some shots their way," he said. "Fortunately, none of them were hit. One of them even threw his putter at him."
Police did confirm that shots were fired during the pursuit and that no one was hit.
The DPD SWAT team was called in. They tracked the suspect to a creek near the golf course and surrounded him. They attempted to talk him into surrendering and eventually deployed tear gas to drive him out. He was taken into custody.
