WHITE SETTLEMENT (1080 KRLD)- After a thorough investigation, White Settlement police found their hooded suspect through a digital smartphone, and were able to arrest the person.

Police arrested 21-year-old Francisco Avila and charged him with Burglary of a Habitation with Intent to Commit Other Felony, which is a first-degree felony offense.

Police said someone broke into an elderly woman's apartment early Friday morning and robbed her at knifepoint. It happened at the Oak Timbers Apartment Complex on Tumbleweed Trail - the complex is designed for active seniors.

A police supervisor was already in the complex on patrol when the call came in. The victim said she was asleep and woke up to a man standing over her - with a knife touching her throat. When she tried to push it away, she cut her hand badly. The suspect fled on foot with some cash and some of her keys.

She was taken to the hospital and then was released later Friday evening and is now surrounded by family.

Police not only had surveillance video showing a man wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and light-colored gloves trying to open two other front doors before walking to the victim's door, but also found evidence through a phone they found near the offense location.

They were only able to find the phone because of its flashlight function still on. They connected Avila as the owner of the mobile phone and gathered a search warrant. They found the items that were stolen from the victim at his apartment.

Additionally, police found items and evidence that may be associated with two other felony offenses, unrelated to this crime. More charges are likely to happen as the criminal investigation continues.
