A teenager is accused of several crimes in Garland including shooting a man attempting a citizen’s arrest after several car burglaries.
Two neighbors were victims of car burglaries and one of them recognized the suspect.
Garland Police say one of the neighbors tried to hold onto the juvenile after calling police.
The suspect pulled a gun and shot one of the neighbors.
“An officer arriving in the area heard the gunshot and saw the suspect fleeing down an alley,” Garland police said. “After a foot pursuit, the officer lost sight of the suspect as he jumped a fence.”
The responding officer then turned his attention to the man suffering a gunshot wound and rendered first aid. The man was eventually rushed to a hospital where he remains in critical but stable condition.
The man faces several surgeries.
Police eventually found the 16-year-old suspect and linked him to several recent crimes they believe are gang-related.
“The suspect, a 16-year-old juvenile, is a documented gang member connected to at least 15 recent crimes,” Garland police said. “He was already the subject of an ongoing investigation, and detectives were in the process of obtaining arrest warrants prior to this incident.”
