TARRANT COUNTY (1080 KRLD)- Tarrant County Sheriff's investigators have a big warning about a big problem -- phone scams. There's been a rash of them lately.
The Sheriff's Office says the scammers are calling would-be victims on any number of fake pre-texts -- like failure to appear for jury duty, unpaid citations and outstanding warrants.
The callers say these victims can pay by so-called Green Dot cards, Zelle or any other cash app. The latest technology makes it easy to be fooled because caller ID shows the call is coming from numbers that look legit.
Like all law enforcement agencies, the Tarrant County Sheriff's Office stresses they never call citizens by phone to demand payment for anything.
