Tarrant County voters can get a free ride to the polling place

Voters Voters in Tarrant County who need a ride to the polling place can get one for free.

The Commissioners Court has approved a plan to provide free rides to voters during the early voting period and on Election Day.

County mobility director Kristen Camareno says the county is partnering with several different agencies.

"The Crowley ZIPZONE, (Near) Southside ZIPZONE and Mercantile ZIPZONE, which are all operated by Trinity Metro," says Camareno; "as well as fixed-route bus and their ACCESS, which is their paratransit service; TCTS (Tarrant County Transportation Services), Northeast Transportation Services, and then Via and Handitran in Arlington."

Taking advantage of the free rides is a straightforward process.

"They will simply show their voter ID card or their current ID to the driver and let them know that they're going to vote, and that's all they'll need to do," says Camareno. "If they want to use ACCESS or TCTS, Northeast Transportation Services or Handitran, they'll need to call ahead and schedule that ride 48 hours in advance."

The Commissioners Court approved the plan at their meeting last week.

"This is being funded by Tarrant County as approved by the Tarrant County Commissioners Court in an amount not to exceed $20,000," says Camareno.
