Taylor Farms is expanding its voluntary recall of iceberg lettuce sourced from central Mexico to 27 states, including Texas, as federal officials investigate a multistate outbreak of Cyclospora infections that can cause severe, prolonged diarrhea.
The recall, announced July 17, 2026, affects products distributed between late June and mid-July, primarily shredded iceberg lettuce and salad mixes sold under various brands, including Marketside at Walmart. Affected states include Alabama, Arkansas, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Maryland, Michigan, Missouri, Mississippi, North Carolina, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and Wisconsin. Consumers should check for "Best if Used By" dates through early August and discard any recalled products.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) initially linked the outbreak to a Taylor Farms supplier after a sample tested positive for the parasite. However, on Sunday, July 19, the FDA announced that retesting determined the result was a false positive. No confirmed contaminated product has been identified, and the exact source of the Cyclospora outbreak remains unknown. Investigations continue with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and state health departments.

Cyclospora cayetanensis is a parasite transmitted through contaminated food or water, often produce. Symptoms include watery diarrhea, fatigue, loss of appetite, nausea and stomach cramps, typically appearing about a week after exposure and lasting weeks if untreated. No deaths have been reported in this outbreak, but hospitalizations have occurred in several states.
Taylor Farms emphasized that the recall is precautionary and that no Taylor Farms-branded salad kits or other products are affected. The company is working with regulators to remove implicated lettuce from the supply chain.
Health officials advise washing all fresh produce thoroughly under running water, even if bagged, and cooking when possible. People experiencing severe symptoms should contact a healthcare provider.
